Time to meet the returning players to the Bulls rugby team for the upcoming fall 2018 season!
Connor Flairty (senior) – Captain
Connor “Gumby” Flairty is the newest captain of the Truman State Rugby squad! Going into his senior year, Connor is a Political Science major with Law School aspirations and, of course, is one of our forwards on the team. Connor won the fall 2017 award for Outstanding Forward.
Jackson Boerckel (junior) – Vice-Captain
Jackson Boerckel is the newest vice-captain of the Truman State Rugby squad! Jackson is going into his junior year and is a student advisor at Dobson Hall. Much like Connor, Jackson is also a forward.
Torin Halbert (senior)
No one knows just how long Torin has been at Truman (many speculate since the University’s inception), but everyone knows just how good he is at Rubgy. A leader on and off the field, Torin is a senior forward with Med School aspirations. If your 21 or over, you might just catch him working at the DuKum Inn right here in Kirksville. Torin has won Outstanding Back two semesters in a row and was the previous captain of the team.
Mike Sit might have graduated from Truman back in December, but don’t tell him that! One of the longest tenured players on the team, Mike is a back on the team and one of the most dangerous players on the field.
Gennaro Mercante (senior) – President
Another Law School hopeful, Gennaro Mercante is a senior forward/back on the team. Gennaro is a psych major and is also president of the team! Gennaro won the fall 2017 award for Most Improved Player.
Chuma Humphrey (junior)
Junior Chuma Humphrey is another Med School hopeful on the team. “The Chuma Train” is a student advisor in C-Hall and is one of our PR leaders for the team.
Max Pyle (senior)
Max Pyle is a senior Mathematics major and forward. Max is also in ROTC and works with Torin at the DuKum.
Josiah Lunceford (senior)
Josiah might have joined the team later on in our spring season, but his presence was immediately felt. Even though he didn’t play in our first two games of the season, “Jigs” still was good enough to easily capture the spring 2018 award for Outstanding Rookie.
Will Sills (junior)
Will Sills is a forward on the team and was the 2017 fall winner for Outstanding Rookie. Will, a junior, is in the education program.
Michael Thomas (sophomore)
Michael Thomas is going into his sophomore year at Truman. A forward on the team, Michael is quickly turning into one of the key players on the team, winning the 2018 spring award for Most Improved Player.
John Reilly (sophomore)
Rocking the best mullet in all of Kirksville, John “Billy Ray Cyrus” Reilly is a sophomore back on the team. John is one of the many members of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity on the team.
Josh Greer (sophomore)
Josh is going into his sophomore year at Truman and is a forward on the team. Josh is an accounting major and, like John, is a member of Beta Theta Pi.
Paul Haarman (sophomore)
Like a good majority of the team, Paul Haarman is going into his sophomore year at Truman. Paul, with his deadly speed, is a back on the team.
Matt Calcara (sophomore)
Matt is a sophomore at Truman and plays forward. His spring season was unfortunately cut short due to injuries, but his upcoming fall season looks to be very bright!
Austin Hebert (sophomore)
Much like Josiah, sophomore Austin Hebert joined the club in late Spring 2018. Austin quickly made his presence felt however, scoring 2 tries against Oklahoma State in Truman State’s sole win of the spring season.
Abdalá Abdala Iregui (junior)
Abdalá is going into his junior year at Truman State and his second season with the team. Hailing from Bogotá, Colombia, Abdalá is a forward on the team.
Blain Lindsey (sophomore)
Blain Lindsey is going into his sophomore year at Truman. In the fall, Blain will be in his second season with the the team. Blain is in ROTC.
Tanner Branson (sophomore)
Tanner Branson, a sophomore, will be entering his second season with the Bulls rugby team this coming fall. Much like Max and Blain, Tanner is in ROTC.
