Spring 2009 Match Reports
Tornado rips through Kirksville – On Wednesday, May 13, 2009 at about 6 PM a tornado tore through the north end of Kirksville causing significant damage to Jim Robertson’s car dealership and many homes in Lakeside Estates and along Bobwhite Drive (east of Lakeside Estates). There are two reported fatalities and a number of injuries. The loss of property was extensive. As I watched the tornado approach Kirksville from the West, it looked like a large black wall moving across the horizon at about 25 miles per hour. The level of devastation is remarkable. The whole community has pitched-in to help those in need. Truman slideshow of the aftermath.

Truman 37 – Missouri 10. After our lackluster performance in St. Louis last weekend, who knew what to expect. Some introspection and a decision to play more aggressively in attack and defense, and to play less selfishly in attack paid off. In one of the best performances of the year, Truman attacked with lots of support, rucked well, and defended aggressively. It was a good end to the spring season, and a great way for four graduating seniors to finish their last home game.

St. Louis Ruggerfest – We were quite unimpressive this past weekend at Ruggerfest in St. Louis, going 0-3 on the weekend. We were missing a number of regular players, but that cannot be blamed for our poor performances. We need to be able to step-up and perform, without excuses. Next week – Mizzou at home.

Benedictine game – Cancelled due the snow storms that slammed across the Midwest.
Truman 36 – Kansas State 0 Truman defeated K-State in the final league match of the year. Something clicked, and Truman began to play the game we have been looking for this past weekend against K-State at home. Truman put up a 22-0 half-time score, and finished 36-0 against a strong K-State team. We began to see glimpses of a more open, 15-man game, with some cracking runs where the ball went through 6-8 sets of hands on the fly. Our defense was strong and played a big role in in this win over K-State. Let’s hope we can keep the momentum!

Truman 22 – Nebraska 37 Truman traveled to Lincoln, NE for a Friday night match on March 6th. Despite playing well, Truman dropped a hard fought league match to the Huskers.
Truman 25 – Oklahoma State 7 Truman opened the season with a solid 25-7 win over Oklahoma State University on Saturday, Feb 28. However, on Sunday the University of Oklahoma made the most of Truman miscues and defeated Truman 14-38. There were many bright spots and everyone is very encouraged heading into our match with Nebraska this weekend.
